After more testing we have figured out that the problem was not with Spark, but with Openfire Search plugin 1.7.1 (and probably older) versions. Search in Spark works ok with 1.7.2 version of plugin (both in Spark 2.8.3 and 2.9.0). Guus also has fixed a small bug with popup in search along the way.

The search is working for me. I did spot a small bug: When a search for users results in no hits, a popup used to be shown, but is no longer. I've fixed that bit in https://github.com/igniterealtime/Spark/pull/470

I mean the search at the bottom of roster window.

How do I reproduce this? The highlighted button is working fine for me, using the current trunk connected to the igniterealtime.org XMPP domain.
