We get lots of reports about outofmemory errors when using Openfire with PEP service enabled. I didn't want to reopen old ticket, because i'm not sure it is related to Empathy client. Looks like 3.6.4 bug is still there. As there is a workaround for this (disabling the service) marking it as Critical.
If it helps you decide: I upgraded my openfire to 3.7.2 and the PEP memory leak seems to be fixed. Previously it would run out of memory very quickly since we use PEP heavily.

Alternatively: resolve this one and open up a new one if the issue appears to persist? Things will have changed considerably by then...

I don't know. The memory leak in pubsub has been fixed for a while now, but I haven't seen any feedback as to whether this has fixed the PEP problem.
I think we need to leave this open until someone who can reproduce the PEP problem can test against a nightly build.

Robin Collier : do you think this ticket can be closed now that is closed?

I would like to see this tested to see if the problem persists now that there is a solution in place for OF-39. This may be able to be closed.
