Dont know which version spark uses but this can be found at the Exe4J website:

Release 4.4 (2010-06-16)

Bugs fixed: Fixed problems with service shutdown

Maybe this has something to do with our problem...

btw: Latest release is Release 4.4.2 from 2011-03-21

Since we use Install4j, there is no need to change the exe4j version
